The Role of Additives in Soil-Cement Subjected to Wetting-Drying Cycles

This study aimed to explore the use of additives in soil–cement mixtures that have undergone a wetting-drying cycle. In total, two types soil were used, granitic and lateritic, which are widely used road base construction Katingan area, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The cement was ordinary Portland type I, while additive utilized for commercial purposes, predominantly contained CaCl2. research conducted by testing optimum content each determine shear strength according Indonesian standards (i.e., minimum Unconfined Compressive Strength 2400 kPa). contents lateritic soils deduced be 5.5% 5% on dry weight basis, respectively. utilization 0.8% resulted 0.5% reduction granite-like soil. results showed higher than without supplementation, no changes occurred. advantage using supplements, however, more pronounced samples when they had been subjected wetting–drying cycles.
